Here is what outdrive I haveView attachment 199995 much different when cleaned up. Can anybody tell me what it is? It says DP Trim on it and the volvo emblem which I blew off with my pressure washer

Try Volvo-Drive-Chart for pictures of all of the various outdrives. Compare your skeg shape and angle, as well as the profile of the top end to match it to a number.

Re: Tbones Restoration of 1978 Bayliner Victoria Sundeck

it looks like you have one of the DP series drives, if you have the hydraulic cylinders, then maybe a dp-c, if just the older trim system, then one of the earlier dp drives. The 290dp has trim/tilt cylinders with sqaure ends for the cotter pin rod, (early model) or round ends for the later 290 models.
Hey Zool

I do have the DP-C the trim/tilt cylinders are round and then I found the tag that says DP-C so I have the newer style. Do you know about what years they made this style?

In the early 90's, i believe the AQ series 290dp overlapped with the DP series, and the round ended cylinders were used in the early nineties for a while.

I have the 1988 290sp with the earlier square ends....one thing is for sure, its not a 78 like your boat ;)

Try running the serial number past the guys in the VP forum on iboats....

So far no real bad damage. But the bathroom has a drain that goes right to the bilge and there is still water in there, the bilge does not work. I have to figure out how to get that water out maybe a shop vac. the engine compartment totally dry??? I don't get it. where I have removed carpet from the wall there is a black coating of some kind. I cant wait to get the floor up. where should I start first GWPSR? once I remove the galley and the bathroom

HeyT, that little bilge for the shower drain is necessary cause the shower floor is below the waterline. It only holds a few gallons of water, say<10 but it is isolated from the rest of the bilges unless you dont run the pump then it overflows to the main bilge. It is fine to use just make sure you dry it well before storage. Here is some info you can use in your refit. A pet peeve of mine is that when I am in the shower on the starboard side of the boat the water runs to that side and aft. Of course the drain is port side and forward. The shower pan is 180 degrees out! Hope that helps. If you are the only one on the boat it tends to list starboard as the couch is on that side as well as the helm. Food for thought.

But there is relief in sight hopefully i can get in my boat this weekend and finish getting the head out maybe get the out drive off. Hey GWPSR keep all that great info coming. I like the way your fillets look.:) That tool you made how did you attach the dowel to the sheet metal? and a refresher your using epoxy resin not poly right?

I used a pair of small wood screws. I like how the flat sides scrape most of the excess off both surfaces while smoothing, and the other flat sides are handy for cleaning anything that gets left behind. If only it were Teflon coated like WoG's spoon. :) Maybe the next incarnation of this tool will be made from a thick piece of polyethylene so that cured resin can just be peeled off.

Yes, I'm using epoxy. I like working without a mask, and not having my neighbors call the cops about the toxic fumes under their kids' bedroom windows. :) Seriously though, while avoiding the poly fumes is a big plus, I'm also after the superior strength and water impermeability of epoxy. The ease of "3 pumps of this and one pump of that" while mixing is easy on the brain. We have some poly here too for other purposes, mostly really small jobs, like repairing dock rash and keel scrapes on gwpjr's Arkansas Traveler, or filling old screw holes in the gelcoat.

It's been hot here too (for us -- mid 80's, low 90's), but worse, nearly constant rain for the last week or so. I'm lucky I was able to "harvest" the lawn one day in between thunderstorms.

My wife is from back east and she said it is more humid there, we get a dry heat.

Well took off the cover on my outdrive looks like the linkage for shifting and there was all this dried crud the cover had two Phillip skrews that was the easiest thing to remove so far went to remove the rear platform and the screws are painted into the rear or broke off. One of my trim tabs was broke off and all the screws were broke off I've got a lot of broke screws on the transom:facepalm: I guess I will have to drill each one out or? maybe you guys have some ideas?

For any screws that broke at or behind the gelcoat, you'll get an opportunity to attack them from the other side when the transom comes out. If they're bolts, you may be able to grab the other end from inside and apply a pry bar to them to pull through. I had one screw that I was able to cut a slot in the end with a dremel, then very carefully work out. If they broke though, they're probably not going to go easy.

There were a few I had to abandon because they were too short to get a grip on from the inside, so I drilled them out and filled the hole. I came to the conclusion that a lot of people hung a lot of stuff off the transom of that boat, under the waterline, using carbon steel fasteners. It's like being a boat dentist, drilling out and filling all the cavities ...

Oh here is some pictures of the bathroom

It is very tedious ripping apart the inside of a boat. I seems like a fight just to remove a shelf:grumpy:
But i have a nice collection of stainless screws:laugh:

I see they were also running 110 VAC cables through the shower pan in '78 too. Who thought that was a good idea, and are they still doing it??? Kinda wish I had kept my shower pan now. It was rough, but I probably could have filled those holes.

You've been busy! Good work!

The # 872028 is the part number for the intermediate housing...not sure of the other. There should be a metal plate on the transom shield, in the engine compartment, just above where the flywheel cover connects to the drive shield, that has the drive info on it

you can look up any of the 6 digit part numbers here by typing them in the "search by part number" box..it appears the intermediate housing is not currently available

Volvo Penta, Mercruiser and more - Marine Parts Express - engines, outdrives, propellers

Any tiome you need to remove corroded screws, nuts/bolts from the drive unit you must use heat, a propane torch at a minimum. I used crc freeze off spray, then heat to break the corrosion, and i still broke some bolts.

I've gone over your thread many times GWPSR and came to the realization that we have the exact same boat. Yeah they had some bright idea's when building the tippy vikkys. Look at what I did to my dog I get better every year

Ok I have the number for my out drive from the tag that is on the outside right below the circle with two Allen head bolts
the tag reads

DP-C 1,95
NO 3102126893
I looked in the engine compartment only saw number on the linkage for the shifting and throttle

I'll try the number in the volvo link from Z but any info from you guys would help thanks
