It seems to me that you (or someone) recommended that I get serial number on engine. I've got it but don't know what good it does me.

2005 150 Johnson Carburated Serial #05081410. I assume that the 05 tells me the year. Does the serial number tell me anything else?

If you have any knowledge or opinion concerning this engine please share. It will, by the way, be on the stern of a 1997 Seaswirl Striper 1850. Motor reportedly has fewer than 100 hours.

Boat, engine, and trailer appear to be in good condition in all respects. All that is left is a test run.

Any thoughts as to what I should look for (or look out for) on test run appreciated.

I haven't bought a boat in years and never an outboard so am very nervous about this. Any thoughts to calm me down?

Thanks

My '98 Johnny 150 has a sticker on the port side of the transom clamp. It contains model number (which gives the year as well), year spark plug number and other stuff. You might look for this sticker.

It is model number we want, not serial number, Btuvi. That verifies the year.

need model # not serial #, but a dealer can tell you from serial #, we can't due to the fact they are not published to the public.
