Pressure washer works great.

ours was a crapy gray color when we got and after reading all sorts of different ways to treat it, i just lightly sanded with 300 grit sand paper to knock off the loose stuff and on a hot ,95, day in the direct sun started wiping on coats of starbright teak oil with a rag
i would wait 20 min for each coat to soak in. after 5 coats and and then wating over night it took on a rich light brown color. for no more work than i put in to it, we are amazed at how nice it came out

I wouldn't sand or pressure wash it. You can buy chemicals (I use Starbrite) at your local boat store or marina that turn it like new in a few simple steps. 1st step is a cleaner, sprayed on then scrubbed, then hosed off. 2nd step is a brightener sprayed on then scrubbed and hosed off. Let it dry then hit it w/ many coats of teak oil (I do approx. 10 coats). I usually do my platform and ski locker twice a year using the above method and they look like new.

i didnt realy sand as you would think of sanding. i just wiped the loose stuff using the sand paper like a rag.
i wanted to get some oil on it to keep it from any worse till i had time to do all the stuff all the pros clame was needed to get it back.
i could have put hours into this and dont think in the end it would have turned out any better

all the wood that you see was done as i stated above. its hard to see but on the starboard side there is a wood step to step out of the **** pit.
it hasnt been done and if you look closely you can see what all the wood looked like before.

I love the look of clean teak. I had a '81 SeaRay that had a lot of teak on in and got so tired of cleaning it to make it look good, that I tried something different. I removed it all, sanded them down and then covered them in four coats of poly. The 2nd and 3rd coats I sprinkled sand on top (while tacky) for traction. I got many compliments on the teak and it looked awesome for 3 years until I sold the boat. Just a thought.

is it teak?...i've seen crazier things

sanding can clog up the grain of the wood if you don't clean it out good afterward. i've tried sanding and the 2 part systems. they both work although the 2 part is much easier and quicker. neither way will last very long if you don't keep up with the oil. pressure washing can get into the grain and tear the wood up, still need to keep up with oil.

bottom line for me, they all do the same thing but the 2 part takes about 30 mins and won't even make you break a sweat.

last for me, you can over-oil. make sure the previous coat is dry, fully absorbed before putting another coat on. the wood will get sticky and blotchy otherwise. i usually stop after 3 or 4. repeating occasionally works better than slopping it on thick.

on my handrail I sanded lightly, used a wire brish with the grain, worked well, then I used an outdoor type varathane- clearcoat. I haven't touched my rail in 3 years, still looks good. May not be the proper thing because moisture cant get out if it gets in, but I dont care, love the way it looks
