Having purchased a gorgeous teak swim platform for my Chris Craft I'm in the process of oiling it this winter. I was told to oil it instead of varnish or putting polyurethane on it, because it will crack and peel after a couple years. I have now 5 coats of hand rubbed teak oil on both sides of it. After letting it sit a few days there are areas that seem dried out or the wood is sucking the oil into it.

Should I just keep applying the teak oil to it until it doesn't look dried out in spots or do I need to apply something else over the teak oil. I don't want to ruin it , it will look great on the back of my 251 Catalina. Thanks-Russ

If it's drying out then you will need to add more oil. Pool the oil and let it soak in, then wipe it off. Probably what your doing anyway.
I prefer the oiled finish although it will need regular service to keep the finish. As you mentioned the other avenues look great but do exactly what you said. You're call. If there is another alternative I'm not aware of it. But hey I'm a newb and open to everything to learn.
