Hi all..any help would be much appreciated...I was changing the impeller on my recently purchased NSF5A. Old impeller was shot. Cleaned up parts and pieces of old impeller and installed new one. But during the process I pulled the shifting linkage up too much. From reading other postings it sounds like I need to tear down lower unit. I removed prop, thrusht washer ect but the shaft doesn't feel like it wants to come out..I'm hesitant to use too much force on it at this point. Should it slide out or do I need to do something with the drive shaft?

thanks,

Yes, I also pulled the prop shaft...couldn't get the shift rod back in without dropping the little pin.
Is there just a pin at the end of the prop shaft...or a pin and a small ball?

thanks for the help!

No ball. There is a push rod (rounded on both ends), and also a "spring holder" that looks sort of like a short piece of shafting. It's about the same length as diameter. The push rod pushes on the spring holder. The spring holder rests against the pin in the clutch dog. I would install the cam rod into the LU first, and then reinsert the prop shaft housing. Full information is in the factory service manual, available from any dealer, including me.
