I recently was given an old outboard. I joined this site today and scanned a series of previous applicable posts here for information along with google searches. The plate on the motor mount has two numbers as follows 217-58541-0 and a serial number of 5B-168080. the original decals are worn/torn off but I can see Ted Williams. Also small tag on motor has T643-21 Tecumseh 7544189 i think. Sears parts central says it's a 5 hp and google says 3hp.. And I know it's an ESKA -Tecumseh made somwwhere from 1968-86 from the 217 number. I think it might be a 1971 but not sure. Can anyone pin this down to a year and hp for me. I'm not hitting on all cylinders...excuse me on the correct cylinder on this research issue. A manual would be helpful as well. I like this old thing and I know it has no spark but seems to have compression and the prop spin when I pull it over and loose rust/old gas or something in the tank. The outboard was retired and so am I so we something in common already. Thanks in advance always curious. Rastus.
