Hello Everyone and thank you for reading my post.
I bought myself a Ted Williams 7.5 HP single cylinder, 2-cycle outboard motor with air cool Tehcumseh engine. It only has forward and neutral, no reverse.
It was pretty dirty, paint flaking off, rusted screws/bolts, and I could go on.
However, having cleaned everything and putting fresh gas in there, 1:32 mix with some marine Stahbil, I was able to start it. Boy is this thing LOUD.
It's got some issues and I have questions.
* To get to the carburetor on this things, it seems you're required to take the power head apart. Seriously, I wanted to just give it a good spray down and clean it out but there is absolutely no way of doing that without removing some stuff off the power head. Is that correct?
* The propeller is held on with a 'plastic' cap nut. I had to make sure I was seeing it right but yeah, it's plastic. Is that OEM?
* When the motor is out of the water, I had no problem going from neutral to forward. But after I put it in a barrel of water, forward gear sometimes does not want to engage. I have to make several attempts. It's sort of odd. Anyone have suggestions or ideas what could be causing this?
I have a leaking quick connect/disconnect and the leak is apparently bad enough to cause the motor to stall unless I squeeze the balb when I hear it starting to stall.
* Any suggestions on getting this motor running tip-top or close to tip-top would be appreciated.
I found a youtube video of the motor that looks like mine: Ted Williams - Eska 7.5 HP - YouTube and here's another one, LOT #567 - TED WILLIAMS 7.5 HP BOAT MOTOR - WORKS.
I don't have any of my own yet but will take some when I get a chance.
