Ted Williams 7HP lower unit grease or oil?

I have a Sears 217.59480. It appears to have oil in the lower unit gear case. I have read that Lubriplate grease is a good option. Should I drain the oil and replace with grease or replace with 80/90 oil?
If I replace with grease, do I need to remove the lower section which will probably require a new gasket? I assume that I can't get the grease into the fill hole.

Fill it with the heavy 80/90 stuff. If it leaks, drain and get a tube of grease and squeeze it in
