Hello, we have a Ted Williams 9.9... The number on it is 217-58621-0. I've read and seen that the ignition is the weak part of these motors. The one we have ran pretty good up till now, so maybe the ignition is goin out (probably check it out better later on). But, i'm wandering if this part CDI 110-0958 Stator 2 Cyl. will replace the old ignition?, since i've read there hard to find and costly. Thanks for any replies.

Wow! You found it! Yes, that should replace the magneto assembly, part 610873, that is on your engine. That is the entire ignition system, except for the two coils mounted on the cylinder head, called "transformers" in the Eska repair manual.

A little pricey, to be sure, but if it is truly available, it could rescue a bunch of 9.9 and 15 hp Tecumseh-based outboards.

The question is, of course, whether it's worth the price. I probably wouldn't have paid that to fix the one I had, but that's just me.

I don't know if this is just newly available from CDI, but, if so, it should sell a few.

Re: Ted Williams 9.9

Well we checked the engine out and there was no fire getting to the lower cylinder so we bought one of the CDI ignitions (because the engine ran good up till the ignition messed up). Now with the new ignition, we have fire on both cylinders and it has alot of the power back but misses like crazy. So we figured the ignition may be a bit out of time or something (we had set it as close to the original as we could to start with), so we moved it around in a few different places, but still the bad miss is there. Thanks for any help or ideas on the new ignition.:)
