Ted Williams outboard reverse, no foward

I have a 7.5 hp Sears Ted Williams outboard model
#57460210. It runs fine, goes into reverse ok, but
won't engage into foward. Thanks in advance for any advice.

what year is it? i have a 7.5 ted from '61......make sure your rpms are down and it is in the "shift" position. the throttle even slightly open may make it hard to shift
