Teleflex Cable Nut frozen on tilt tube, Tube spins

I'm Kind of stuck...I have the rotary cable free from the helm unit but I can not separate the cable from the tilt tube. The tube just turns no matter what nuts I tighten or hold. I Could push the tilt tube out with the cable but I think that would leave the motor unsupported, so I probably should avoid doing that. Is there a way to hold the tube stationary to free the cable from the tube? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks but I ended up using my cutting wheel on the cable nut, but now I don't see how I can get this cable out of the tube. I can move it towards the starboard side about 2 inches but then it gets hung up. It looks like the cable end diameter is larger on the port side of the tilt tube?

Being my first experience with the steering cable I wasn't sure why I have different cable diameters on each side, but now I think the different cable diameters may be the cable design which allows the cable to extend and retract during operation.

Since the cable moves in the tilt tube, I think I am going to cut the cable on the starboard side of the tilt tube, and then pull the cable end link out from the port side. I am guessing that the tilt tube must have some corrosion built up inside, preventing me from pulling the whole cable through to the starboard side of the tilt tube.

Does this seem like a good plan?

I can report that I have finally extracted the cable from the tube. I ended up cutting the cable on the starboard side and using an air hammer to drive it to exit the tube on the port side. The air hammer had a mechanical failure so I finished by using a vice grip to twist and pull the end link out out the tube . Thanks to all who responded. Cleaning out the tilt tube and ordering a new cable.
