Goodday all,
Working on my 86 Bayliner,20' Capri,i/o,5l, steering cable again this year.
Never got around to replacing the cable last year.
It's a rack type mechanical steering system.I know it's a 16 ft cable and runs about $180.oo Canadian plus taxes,no shipping on that.
I've disconnected the i/o end of the cable and manually moved the i/o and it moves very freely.
The steering wheel itself is free and easy at idle and slow speeds. The steering is only tight when the drive is at higher torques.
Would it be wise to replace the cable and hope things improve or is there a problem with the design of this rack steering method?
What about an upgrade, like a hydraulic method ?
Thanks in advance
