teleflex steering cable

I have a 16 ft Wahoo with a 70HP Johnson. <br />My teleflex steering cable SSC727010 froze up. <br />I also notice the steering has a couple "skips" in it when turning it. Two questions:<br />1. When I replace the cable do I need to replace the helm/steering box also?<br />2. Can I replace it all with the Teleflex Safe-T QC steering system?<br />Thanks for the help.

I f you were fighting a sticking/freezing cable and having to really crank on the helm you may have damaged components inside the box. Not sure how old the boat is but if the steering cable is frozen helm may be pretty well worn - probably not a bad idea to replace the box up front as well to give you peace of mind that the entire steering system is new. Not sure about teleflex specifics.
