Hi All,

Do Teleflex CCX179xx TFX TREME series throttle/shift cables justify their higher price compared to standard quality CC179xx series cables?

Thanks in advance,

Dmitriy

P.S. Afaik CCX179xx series is formerly known as C635 series.

Re: Teleflex throttle/shift cables: CC179xx vs CCX179xx

The TFX TREME series helps keep throttle and shifting smother if your boat has any tight bend radius between the engine and control handle.

If your boat allows enough room to allow excess cable lay freely while making any slight rounded turns then you would not necessarily need the TFX TREME cable.

You can find some additional information about the differences in the following link if interested, http://www.jamestowndistributors.co...chCat-ControlCables(v4_0)Universal_Cables.pdf

Hope this helps, good luck.:)

Fun Times:

Thanks for your reply. Would you expect the TFX TREME series to have longer life time or the difference you outlined is the only one?

The only tight bend radius in my boat is right at the entry into the outboard as I cannot have a cable loop in front of it (there's just not enough for the loop to lie and move there freely). So if the life time of TFX TREME series is not much longer than standard series I may be better off with the latter, which are significantly cheaper. This is for freshwater/river application.

Btw my current cables have something like "KIVI | KA | 115 | |" imprinted on their black jacket. Any idea what make/model it could be? Already tried googling different spelling variations - no luck. They measure 3060-3080mm (10.04 - 10.11 ft) between their exit from Mercury Commander 2000 remote control and their entry into Mercury 90 ELPTO outboard, so I'm inclined to think they're 11ft long - or 12ft?

Re: Teleflex throttle/shift cables: CC179xx vs CCX179xx

I have a new Teleflex cable and NFB rack and pinion. Like them very much. I don't know what model I have but it wasn't exotic. I use it on my 90 ELPT also. Actually Teleflex gave it to me so I don't know the retail price. Point I want to make is "kinking of the cable" as it came up in your thread.

My boat is an alum bass boat of 17'. The engine is jacked up the first notch in the clamp bracket which puts the entry point for the cables 3/4" off the transom. Approximately 3-4" to the side of the clamp bracket entry point is where the boat designer placed the exit point for the cables with a chrome cap over the exit for asthetics.

Since this was a production boat, I assume that having the engine raised caused the problem. I bought the boat used and it was that way when purchased. Due to the close proximity and abnormal dimensions, the cable was forced to the dimensions mentioned which made for a very tight bend, bordering on a kink, which is a no-no for cables of the sort. Steering took too hands when I bought the boat. In the replacement cable routing, I routed it out and across the rear deck which was in sight but made for smooth, large radius, bends which were what was needed.

So, my point here is that when you consider your routing, don't kink it. Once you kink the center conductor you can never get it straight again.

Does this bend look too bad or it's acceptable? It should be the worst case bend as the OB seems to be fully turned left here.

No that bend should not hurt the cable. i would like to a bit more support for the cables coming out of the cowling.

Pop the cowling and take a shot from the top. Looks good from here but before I would go for it I would want to see inside. Outside it looks fine.

I use the TFXTREME cables for my shift and throttle cables for the boat in my signature. I wouldn't buy any other.

Here's the only one I could find with such view (the boat is far away from me now):

The bend will of course be sharper in the leftmost OB position.

Inside the cowling has enough support to keep the shift and throttle smooth,

you need a lil support for the cables where they come out of the cowling

What sort of support would be ideal (at their exit from the cowling)? A few examples would help.

Unfortunately I have no better pictures with the OB turned hard to port than the one in my post #5. When the OB is turned hard to starboard the bend somewhat straightens. Effort wise cannot recall any noticeable difference depending on the OB position.
