Tell me 'bout your insurance

I'm going to change insurance agents, maybe as soon as today. The one I have now has become completely unresponsive and are incompetent. They won't return phone calls and will not make requested changes in a timely manner. A few weeks ago, I ask to have a new Acura added. Didn't know until a month later that they had removed my Cherokee. Went over there and got that fixed. Didn't know until a month later that when they re-added the Cherokee, they dropped the Acura. I've been trying for 2 days to no avail, to get in touch with them. Total incompetence.

I thought that since I'm changing agents, I might as well look at other insurance. How's yours? Any recommendations? Right now I'm with State Farm for both auto and home.

I use SAFECO for Auto ...... They will not take my 150 year old home so I have Allstate for the home. Safeco has been very good to me but, it is actually my agent (who is a friend) that is responsive.

IMO it might be your agent is defective..... most any insurance will cover you.

We carry only liability on all our vehicles. Seems like any time you want to make a claim, the rates go up!:|

What a racket! Sure, you pay me every month, but when you make a claim and want what you pay for, *&%# YOU!

Sorry, insurance is one of those things that gets my blood boilin'

I have AIG

Not sure how they are in cust service, as I only have liability, and never have filed a claim.

They seem to take my money just fine.

I have to agree this is a rep issue. Insurance companies are rated. I have Boat US for the Boat and Horace Mann for everything else but the snowmobile. I have no idea who that is, I just pay the premium.

I have been with State Farm for 40 years. Three different agents during that time and never had any complaints.

Seems you have an agent whose help is incompetent.

I have Esurance on my truck. I can make changes myself online and can download my id cards when I need them. I've had no problems.

Tommays,

I have State Farm for home, boat and auto. When my agent of many years retired, I was re-assigned to a new agent and everything went down the dumper. After about the 3rd or 4th screwup, I talked to the agency manager and gave specific examples, and the names of the people who make the mistakes.

After that, there has never been another problem.

Good luck

Went with the new "Fire and Casualty" Allstate plan. Rates never go up for accidents (it doesn't matter how many), cheaper than the older Allstate insurance. I haven't had an accident in about 20 years, but I don't want to be afraid to use the insurance when I do. Your deductable also drops $100 every accident free year all the way to $0. Other perks too, but I can't remember them all right now. Worth checking out.

pay close attention to your homeowners - there's been some changes round here - coverages you can keep long as you keep renewing - like foundation shifts caused by subterranean plumbing problems - maybe a few others.

We're with allstate right now, same agent for many years - "responsive" is the key word. It's all about the agent.

I was really impressed with the way state farm handled my claim when one of their customers collided with me. Got my car in & out of the shop quickly...treating the other guy right reduces your chances of getting sued.

Shop around for rates or whatever, but I wouldn't stay with a bad agent either.

Acuity, formerly Heritage Insurance, and General Casualty for the autos.
Both are great old companies, sold by independent ins agencies.

Congrats on getting your act together on insurance. Everyone should shop and change insurance when it becomes advantageous to do so. Unfortunately you have your work cut out for you. It works by location, zip codes, county lines, and sun spots and moon phases, etc. You can compare coverage only within a state but prices are a regional thing so everyone's input is of little value, if any real value at all.

Good luck!

Edit: Before you drop your current insurance make sure you are not dumping a policy you are locked into a a low rate compared to the currant rates. From what I have read and what I’m hearing in financial discussions some insurance has gone up as much as 200% or more for boats and homes following the last couple of hurricane seasons. Everyone is effected, even folks in California that don’t know what a hurricane is and can’t spell it because of the crappy California public school system are seeing huge jumps in boat and home insurance rates.

Well, maybe everyone.
There is an advantage to using an insurance company that only does business in a specific regional or state area.

One more thing to look for in home insurance, especially if you have an older home.

Make sure you have coverage that will pay to bring your home up to the current building codes.

An example would be if you had a small fire that destroyed a portion of your home. Say $20,000 damage. Local or state laws may prevent you from repairing your home unless you also update the electrical system and replace an older style septic system.

So you want insurance that will pay the $20,000 and the cost of the code updates.

Anybody ever heard of that company, the Mega Life insurance company? I saw the ad on tv, I thought it was a fictional insco that some name brand insco was using to promote their company. They're real!!! LOL

Re: Tell me 'bout your insurance

I have Germainia for auto and home, I've had them for about 13 years now. Its the only company I've ever had on home owners. I've had about 4-5 different companies for auto before then. Nver was happy with any of them till Germainia. Its a great company and I have a great agent. He's seen my kids born and knows there activities even though he lives about 35 miles from me. I used to think he had our info in notes in the file but I was wrong. I can drop in the office after not seeing him for 6 months and he remembers all of it, before he pulls the file!

I use geico. They are available 24 hours a day and they pay claims very fast, which comes in handy when the kids are learning to drive......
