Well i finished pulling apart my 89 johnson 90hp
And notice one of the piston bearings were gone and caused crankshaft and connecting rod to be worn down. Some gouges in that piston sleve next to the exhuast port, and a small 1/8 hole on the bottom of that piston chamber caused by a bearing being smashed through. Also the crank case was a little beaten up from the connection rod slaping around, but no damage were the seal rings are located. As it stands right now I need heads, crankshaft or repaired,1 connecting rod,4 pistons, all new bearings, seals, and a good bore job(hoping not to resleave).
What do you guys think

thanks
dave

There are tons of V4s powerheads that just toasted one piston/cylinder available cheap. Healthy crank, case, rods, etc.. I'd look for one of those locally. Post back if you have trouble. Amongst other things, that hole in the bottom of the piston chamber would need to be welded shut, or it will interfere with the breathing considerably.

Start with the crank first. If you can find a used one the the rest is easy.

I'm thinking about $2500 or less, especially if you can get a good bottom half used. If you've kept up the accessories and lower unit, that would be cheaper than a new motor. I would be tempted to go ahead and do the repair.

fp, not an expert, but does rebuild engines for entertainment sometimes.

Edit... shoot you both type faster than me. lol.

I noticed that i can get a rebuit head for under 1500 from iboat, now i just need to see if doing it myself would be better and cheaper

Or....check iboats for rebuilt power heads. Less than $2500.
