1977 Mako dropped 20 feet. This was completly restored for a ton of money and 2 years of work before the drop. The motors took about a month to get straightened out and the boat has only been in the water a half dozen of times including the motor test runs.
There is a lot more damage that you can only see from the inside. The motors had the skags broken off of both. Just an overview so far on them.
The marina has taken responsiblity and said they will fix it.
Had one restorer look at it and said 20+, but needs to get the floor up to take a better look.
Just wondering if it's worth it or should we just let it go? Will it ever be right again?

Fixable? Sure. Anything is. But- Is it going to be worth it? Sounds like it's going to cost some big money... The right people could probably get it to like new, or even better- But after investing some serious time/money... Might be best to cut your losses (or the marinas) and find a new one. I'm sure that their insurance company will have some input, and probably the final say...

Spikes - What a shame. 2 years of work and built they way you wanted. I would start looking at replacement boats, so you have a realistic budget. When they offer the settlement you will know if they are withholding or giving you a fair deal. I don't think that could be fixed in a short amount of time, I would not want to wait to be on the water.

For about $20k you could get this

Thit is/was a beautiful boat! What a shame about dropping it. You have a lot of time, money and effort in restoring it and maybe you should just do what you gotta do and get it fixed by a professional who knows what he's doing! Good Luck!

Re: Tell me what you think.

Thanks guys for the input. This is my son's boat and he found it through word of mouth about 3 months ago, (been looking for a year). Has all the receipts for the work done on it, over 30k, and he put another 3K into it, most in the twin 140hp Yamaha's. The restorer that said 20+ is the pro that did all the work on it before.
Everyone is upset. The restorer, the original owner, the lift driver that's looking for work, the marina (that wants it off the lot, bad for business). Nobody wins when this happens. Just thankful that no-one was hurt. The marina/insurance will decide who will fix it and when, so I offered the boat in the avatar, it was a joint venture between son and myself, but he saying no.
I guess a 1200 mile road-trip to see the new grandson again and checkout the damage would be a good thing. It's just not good timing right now and I might have to do it again with the old Baja in tow. Just have to wait for now but thanks to you guys we know it can be fixed right.
I love the old boats and seeing them restored, and my son has the same love and means to maintain it, so it was a good fit for the son and the Mako.

PS: Vermilion, Ohio has an antique boat run every year and it's well worth the time. Better yet, bring your boat and get in it.:D

Re: Tell me what you think.

Just an update. The same guy that dropped the boat did the repairs and it came out great. Took forever, but my son has had it out several times in the month it's been back. Some little stuff was wrong but the marina took care of them.:)
Just wanted to thank you all for the input. This old man would have never believed the thing could have been fixed, even after looking at all the restoration sites here.
We'll take a good look at it in the fall when we get down to Florida.
props to all;
Huts
