Would someone please tell me the location of the tell tale on theis motor please? I have searched my Seloc manual and found reference to it, but no actual location. I have a picture where I THINK the water is supposed to exit, but not sure how to post the pic. Will gladly email or post it if one of you fine folks would educate me !! Thanks,
Donnie in Mississippi.

From these engines I have looked at, the early motors (1974) of that class did not have what we now think of as a tell tale overboard water indicator. Yours should have about a 3/8" hole in the rear upper mid section boss about a couple of inches down from where the lower motor cowling is. This is a carry over from the earlier motors that only used this hole as an relief escape hole where a portion of the water mixed with the exhaust to cool the mid housing. Under normal conditions it only spews a little watery mist along with some exhaust. It is very hard to tell if the water pump is actually working on these.

I am not really sure when they actually added the tell tale hole, but suspect it was in 1975.

Go to this website that I wrote for additional info. http://www.pugetsoundanglers.org/Fishing Info/Johnson 9.9_15.htm
