Classic response! "----^----"!!! I love that Crystal Cove area. I been going there since early 80s...there's a little fickled point break called "Scotsman" I surf when I'm in the area. I never miss out on the date shakes at the shack. yummmmy ).

The Twin Cities area in Minnesota has a ton of different lakes to launch at, most with free DNR ramps. I'm hoping this season to launch on the Minnesota River and take it east to St. Paul where it meets the Mississippi. We enjoy the variety of launching at different waters.

have two ramps
but since the boat isnt stored in our yard we go to the one that is a quarter mile down the road from the lot. its a lousy part of the delaware river debris allows gets trapped between the dock and concrete launch area. you can really only go one at a time and i've never had to wait longer then 1 guy to launch. its nice =)

boating the great drought of central texas.

lake travis is 33' below average level for this time of year.

you can see some of the stairwell railing in the foreground. the water level is normally above the big boulders that line this cove.

same cove but from the water level. there's a boat passing between the islands and bluff created by the cove. all of this land is normally underwater. the islands past the red buoys are usually only about 3-4' above the water at this time. they've been exposed for 3 or 4 months now and tower above the water. you can't see to the other side of the lake now.

luckily, my neighborhood lake is constant level because all of the ramps on lake travis are closed.

Wow Salty, the Lake Travis thing in Austin is awful. It looks like you could def. get into some rocks there, but your home water sure is beautiful. I need to get my camera out and take more shots like that.

Lake Berryessa is also really low. We're heading there Labor Day weekend. We'll see how much boating is still possible.

Any tips for first time "anchoring and beaching" ?

You lake guys really have it good. Don't get me wrong, Pittsburgh is not a bad place to boat most of the time. My sister has a summer place on Tim's Ford Lake down in TN and she loves that compared to river boating. I would kill (well maybe just seriously injure someone) to have a good sized lake for boating near by. The one or two decent sized lakes within an hour or so of my home are reduced horsepower (10 hp or less) or sailboat only.

What makes a lake "reduced horsepower"? Is it size, depth, crowding or some other concern?

The PA Fish and Boat commission is what makes it reduced hp. Seriously, both of these lakes are more than deep enough (I have fallen out of canoes into both, I know how deep they are) and more than large enough. Its the fact that the fisherman of PA need some place to go where they won't get sprayed by jetskiers or waked by big cruisers.

I was there 3 weeks ago. It was not that low. A lot of the areas for running the boat on shore are not silty. You might want to invest in a keel guard. If your boat has scratches on the bottom, your OK without it.

The lake is about 70-190' deep in most areas away from shore. (not the narrows). A pic of the dam area below.

Biscayne Bay mainly. I go out the ramp on 79th street usually. We are going to the Keys this week for a few days. I'm looking forward to some good cruising and island hopping for sure.
