2006 Merc 50 4-stroke EFI that has about 50 hrs on it. It was used in saltwater for one year, but now always in fresh water. It gets stored outside and endures temps well below freezing. I always winterize it properly.
This spring upon starting it with muffs, then in a garbage can full of water, it produces only a burping spray of water. Every time I started it this way in the past, it produces a solid stream. I tried clearing the water stream hole with some weed wacker cord, and no changes. No temperature alarms, and operating at normal temperature. Just no water out of the telltale.
I dropped the lower unit and found the impeller to be in ok condition, but I'm replacing it anyway. Also replacing all seals as a preventative measure, as I suspect some water in the lower unit.
Is there anything else in the cooling system that I should be checking / going over? It seemed to be pumping water fine last fall and I'm curious what could have gone wrong.
Once I get the parts this week I hope to put it all back together.
