temp alarm for suzuki df115

Hi guys have been having an issue with a temp alarm at idle only after 20 minute steam.

Boat runs fine at high rpm but within a minute or two at idle afterwards a temp alarm sounds on dash and motor cuts out.

Thermostat operating ok, tell tale looks ok, poppet valve clear, sensors in good condition.

Only thing odd i noticed was the water plug which appeared melted or somewhat damaged.

Funnily enough i am no longer getting the alarm, it may have been due to no use over the last few months.

Will get the diagnostics run on it but not holding my breath as to what that might reveal.

tell tale hot to touch after an half hour run at 4000rpm

Problem has returned, diagnostics readout has not thrown any codes.

Anyone got some 101 tips to trouble shoot?
