A friend of mine has a pair of 1997 Suzuki 140 outboards on his boat. They have about 300 hours on them. After changing the head gasket the exhaust cover and ignition switch, the port side outboard sets the temp alarm, rev limiter and sometimes the check engine light.
It is not overheating. It will set these lights within 20 sec of starting cold, and it is pumping and peeing out water just fine.
Since he has two identical engines, we've swapped a lot of parts. We obviously swapped the temp sensor, as well as the ambiant air sensor, and the ECU. None made a difference. We swapped the multifunction guage. No fix. Next we swapped the wiring harness from the starboard side engine. Still does the same thing.
I am stumped. Its making me feel stupid. I have a feeling it has something to do with the ignition switch. Any ideas?
also, it seems to set the alarm much faster if you rev it up. If you just start it and let it idle, it may not set the light.
