I've noticed that a knocking - ticking starts to occur when temp guage hits 170, which doesn't happen under normal cruising speeds, but long idle times like trolling, or wot trimmed up . Need some help bf I start speculating and don't want more projects than needed. I learned that the hard way on fuel pump then starter then xyz,.not fun ..thoughts , if thermostat, what does the 130,150,170 spec on them mean
Thx

Noise in engine or drive?
What is oil pressure when cold engine just started up, after 5 minutes run time, and when noise starts?

That refers to the temp at which the thermostat will open to let water into the rest of the engine. You'll want to verify the correct thermostat for your engine...I think it's in the service manual...possibly the O&M. Not sure.

My old 5.7 ticked like a stopwatch in the heat of the summer.

I put some seafoam in the oil, ran it for 20 min and changed the oil...quieted it down right away.

Ticking and knocking are two different things...which one is it? a tick or a knock?
