Temp control/sensor

Hi guy's,I bought a 75 Evinrude 15hp and this was attached to the power head, I've never seen anything like this,just curious if anyone knows what it is and what it's function is ? I've taken it off ,it was attached to a 4 or 5 pin connector,just curious that's all

Lol I have no clue,that's why I posted it, never seen this on an outboard motor
