Temp Gage Help

[1983rinker]

I have a 75 hp outboard 1980. I want to put on a temp gage. I have a gage from the same year. But I have no sender. Can I buy a universal one and use? Or can I hook it up to my heat sensor? My gage brand name I don't no but I see Q on the gage for the maker.

This won't help much but when i bought a Faria temp gauge I was told I had to use a particular sender for that gauge.

Whether there are universal senders and gauges, don't know.
