Hi,

I'm wondering if this is normal....
During the ny heat wave which was 100 degrees on saturday, I drove my boat at top speed for 1/2 hour and then entered a NO WAKE ZONE 5mph for another 1/2 hour. By the time I got out of the 5mph zone, I noticed that the temp was just a hair shy of the RED ZONE. As soon as I increased my speed (25-30 ) the needle started back down to normal.

Question: Should the temp gauge go up that high at 5 mph traving for a 1/2 hour??

Thanks in advance,
Lou

No, that is not normal. What type of motor / outdrive do you have and what year is it?
How long has it been since the water pump impeller has been changed?
Is the screen for the water pump clear of debris?

You might consider posting this topic in the engine section for some more answers but list year, outdrive or outboard, make, etc.

Hi,

The motor is a 470 merc I/O 1986
The water pump inside the outdrive was changed this spring. The engine runs cool all day with the exception of going 5 mph for long periods of time.
