Re: temp hot

T/stats or deflectors may be getting crudded up and not allowing good flow at slower speeds.Just a guess. Is the engine used primarily in salt water and thoroughly flushed afterwards?Post the year of your engine as T/stat designs vary .

Re: temp hot

I've been using a product called Salt-Away that has seemed to help. If you are running in salt water you might find it useful.

I found it at Boaters World but I'm sure that your local dealer can get it.

Re: temp hot

Just a thought here....maybe ob or one of the other guys can verify.....I was thinking about the placement of the temp sender to the gage. If it's mounted right on the front of the head, maybe your seeing a normal temp? I've notice, even at idle, the front of the heads may run real warm as compared to the flat area on top of the engine. Would be nice to know the year or Model Number.

Re: temp hot

the year is a 1986 110 evinrude, the head gaskets were replaced this the defelectors looked good, brought the motor 2 years ago rebulit with new pistions maybe this is a normal thing for these engines and yes it is used in salt water and not flushed after each use, boat is docked.

Re: temp hot

johnson110,Did the engine temp guage ever read lower that what you are now seeing .If so,that would serve as your diagnostic baseline.160 is still acceptible ,just just barely.Since the boat is run in salt and also moored in the same without seeing a freshwater flush,my suggestion would be to replace the T/stat assemblies at least each season and strongly consider seeking accomodations to fresh water flushing after use.

Good point OBJ as to the placement of the guage sender ,but I really can't elaborate as to what temp would read where.Makes sense to me though.
