Hi Guys,I have an evinrude 115hp 1984 that runs great.I just replaced the impeller as prev.maint. I have always noticed that when I run at high rpms the temp slowly rises to where I get uncomfortable and I usually pull back on the throttle a little and it comes slowly back down.I was going to run some salt-away through the motor to see if it helps. any suggestions are welcome. The cooling system should cope with this. I suppose your high rpm is within the recommended range? Lugging could make temp raise.

If all other is normal you would be right to check for suff that prevent water from flowing freely in the water jacket. Check from intake to exhaust. Residues and/or stuck thermostat would be a starting point. As you say it runs great one assumes that fuel and ignition is OK.

Not sure about the Evin, but Merc 115 is stated normal temp up to 77C or 190F. I experince slighty higher temp when idling for longer periods while the gauge barely shows any temp while under way.

It will cost you 30-35 bucks. Get a kit with two new thermostats, two springs and two plastic valevs.Look at the bottom of your engine in the back of the motor. You will seel three bolts that hold the thermostat assembly together. Pull those three bolts and you will have access to change the thermostats, valves and springs.
