Temp sender

I have swapped my manifold to a nice aftermarket unit. All is well, except I have found that the temp sender from my 2bbl manifold is to small. I know the issues of using auto parts on a marine engine and avoid doing so, but I'm thinking this sensor may be ok. Is the sensor from an automotive app usable in a marine app? The marine unit I have doesn't appear to be "marine" in any way.

What engine do you have ? What brand of temp gauge is in your dash ?

Use a Brass Pipe Bushing to reduce the size of the Hole to fit Your Sender........

I was going to say that!<br /><br />Just remember that all the fitting sizes will be pipe threads.

Ayuh,...............<br /><br />How come You didn't tell him Not to use Teflon Pipe Tape...??....... <br />But to use Another type(Liquid or paste) of sealant so the Bushing,+ Sender will be able to Ground out on the Manifold..............<br /><br />No Ground = No Guage Reading..............

Hmmm, now where do I find such a bushing?<br /><br />Sorry to dissappoint, but I gave up on teflon tape, have a liquid ver that works much better made by permatex.<br /><br />The engine is a Ford 302 (narinized by Mercruiser). I think the sensor I have is a 3/9 and the one I would need is a 1/2". Looking at the parts store website, looks like an inexpensive swap if one would work. <br />May be easier than tracking down a bushing in the town I'm in <br /><br />The gauge in the dash is factory 1976 Mercruiser, looks like a Teleflex Int. Blue.

The only way to be sure if the auto sender is in the same resistance range as the original (capatible with your gauge) is to take your sender to the parts store and put an ohm meter on both at the counter to see if they are both showing similar resistance at the same temp. I'm sure there is a listing somewhere that you could dig up to compare....just don't know where to find it.

You should be able to find that bushing at a plumbing supply.....J

49 here. 50 doesn't sound nearly as old as it did 30 years ago. I don't like getting older, but the alternative REALLY sucks.
