Hi everyone, I have a 1990 Evinrude 88 SPL. I am wondering has anyone used a temperature sending unit and gauge and if so where have you mounted the sending unit on the motor? Where would be the ideal place on this motor for it? Also would you use one or two of them? If two would you use one gauge or two? Just was thinking about that seems like you might need one gauge per sending unit..

I've pondered the same and decided to replace the sensors instead so this is more of a comment then an answer.... You'd probably have to use two gauges as the heads are the critical areas. I've pondered doing a sender in the center manifold but what if a head is cooked by the time the manifold heats up? Plus from what I've read you have to buy the sender and gauge together so they read correctly. Also my local boat shop brought up a very good point when I broached the topic years ago. He said do a horn/buzzer, people aren't going to pay attention to a gauge when they're out on the water.

I have the alarm but I do not believe the hot horn works wiring is good as I wired to my boat horn.. but I just wanted to have another source or reading of the heads temperature I bought a IR gun and if I have any signs of over heat I can easily pop the cowl and check thank you for your advice!
