I have bought a new unit however it is physically different . I am having trouble finding one that looks the same. The new one is what came up at parts store. Will it work?

As long as the penetration depth gets to where it is hot and the ohm rating on them is the same ( matches ohm range of guage) then yes.
at room temp check ohms between terminal thread and body on both at room temp and both heated in boiling water. Ohms should change with temp .

And again..... what are you working on??????

Which parts store? A Merc dealer/online site or a local car parts shop? You do realise that any old car electrical part CAN NOT be used in a boat... It needs to be SAE-J1171 certified.

It's a ford 302 and I got it from lordco. I went to my marine dealer as well and it seems impossible to find the same one that I had
