Temp sensor on 1986 evinrude 175

Can the heat sensor which is on the Evinrude 175 hp outboard be hooked up to a guage for actual temp rather than warning tem. If not, can the current sensor be replaced in the same hole with a sensor hooked to a real temp gauge?. I asked before where to drill and place a temp sensor on this motor. Any suggestions?<br />Thanks

The sensor that's in there now is just an on / off switch. They're temperature gauges available that use a sensor that goes under a head bolt between the head and bolt. Have you considered a water pressure gauge instead? It'll warn you about a problem sooner then the temp gauge or the horn.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

Hi I have 85 175 evinrude on a 85 chaperral boat it does have a real temp guage not just a dummire one. I think from memeory that the sensor is drilled right into the head then a wire feed right to the **** this was factory as I got the boat new. .. Hootie how do I go about hooking up a water presure gauge to mine and what should be the presure on a 85 175 evinrude Thanks Stas

I hooked up a water pressure gauge this weekend to my 175 Rude. i just teed into the teltale feed about 4 inches from the teltale outlet on the motor. Rather than drill a hole in the cowling, i drilled a hole through the rubber grommet in the front of the cowl where the throttle ? cables run through. My water pressure was about 1-2 lbs at idle, 5-6 at mid, and 11 lbs at full throttle. Is this consistent with others experience? thanks for your help guys.

Ideally, you note the water pressure right after a water pump rebuild. That way, you can monitor water pump wear as well as knowing for sure it's pumping.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty
