I took out the two temp sensors and notice there was no grease on them. Before I had the motor rebuild I had taken out and they had a coating of grease. What grease should I use or don't worry about it. Also some one told me that on my motor when you turn the key to the first posision the horn should beep well it doesnt what should I look for. The horn works and my sensors also make the horn go off. I have a 93 Johnson 225. Thanks

Re: temp sensors

Mine doesn't beep when I turn my key, but I know some do. You can unhook the knife connector, for each sensor and ground the wire, to the control box , horn should sound.
If you know it works, I would guess it would be in your key switch , as far as not sounding when key is turned. I dont know about the grease, I wouldn't over do it , it may effect the way they operate. I've never greased mine. But if they came from factory with grease, then I guess I'd grease them.
Good-Luck,
KYHunter :) :) :)

Re: temp sensors

Thanks for the info. My key switch is fairly new and the horn works when I ground the wires. And as for the grease i guess i wont put any unless I hear otherwise.

Re: temp sensors

I don't know for sure, but this may well be silicon heat sink grease, it allows for better heat transfer from the head to the sensor.

Re: temp sensors

If the "grease" is brown in color and appears dry, it's likely gasket sealing compound.

What's your horn sound like? A buzz or a tone?
