Temporary gas filter in line

Been at this so long I'm forgetting what I once knew. Put together a crank up inline 6 Merc. Want make sure it gets plenty of oil, and also nothing comes out on the new plastic tank. Put in a temporary inline gas filter (plastic see through paper auto filter). Theres no way it will filter that 24-1 oil any right? Need to put a few break-in hour heat cycles before it gets wet with more easy running to get the 10 hours on it

Most standard filters will not filter out the 2-cycle oil. Make sure that filter has the capacity for that motor. I have never had much luck putting a filter on my Merc 1500. It always caused too much resistance.

Its coming off after the breakin (maybe... so far so good..its stops killing the neighbors on muffs with smoke its gone pronto)..this is a big 2 inch puppy..WalMart special (half price of the other Auto stores )..Tossed one on my old 125hp Force last year with the possibility of a good look see at what gas we are getting lately might do to the old built in tank..so far, so good.

I tend to agree on the filter and resistance. My tower was hard to feed even without it. Even tried an electric fuel pump once but couldn't get the pressure adjusted right.

It has totally rebuilt pumps on it...but, yep, they sure like gas!

I was run with normal (auto) fuel filter many years with a 24:1 oil ratio in my fuel, with a russian engine until i switched on a suzuki oil injected engine . I stil use the same gas filter on my fuel lines and i don't have any problem.

Was that with a tower? It's a long way up to that top carb and takes some pumping to get fuel up there. Other engine designs don't seem to have that problem.

Mine took a lot of fuel to get started initially for the day, but as far as mpg went it was one of the most fuel efficient engines I ever owned.....course the hull design of the boat was part of that too as once you got her up on top and hooked up it didn't take much hp to keep her there (Ranger Fisherman, '89 680C, 115 Merc I6)

Mark, I see where ya mean resistance now on the tower..those pumps gotta suck that stuff WAY up there..
Mine is a prime stuff/rebuilt crank up rebuild, and it too still takes a lot of cranking to get fired after sitting (but a monster after warmed up!)

I loved that engine but my son couldn't get it thru his thick head that it was back there and kept hitting it with his lures and knocking the paint off it. ARGGGGGGGGG.

Had it wet for the first time yesterday. 135/16' Flatbottom. Freakin ROCKET with a 19p. Trying a 25P today. Only 5th hour of breakin, so still getting it dialed in. Whata HOOT! Couple pix from yesterday..(no trouble on gas, just that initial purchase price that hurts!)

SCATTY, That boat looks a lot like my 16' Avenger, which is a vee bottom, although not by much. I have a '77 Merc 1500 on it. It is a lot of fun to drive, but at high speed, you need to hold it steady, lest it start to pitchpole(or chinewalk).

25 may not even be enough. I ran that engine with a 24P on a 17' Ranger bass boat and hit 55 mph before the chine walk shut me down. The Ranger weighs a lot more than what I would expect your boat weighs....can tell by the little bit of boat in the water in your pic.

No I didn't keep the prop. The dealer sold me the boat with that prop and after the first outing I dropped down to a 19 which would still hit over 40.

Had an XS150 on a Switzerccraft 17. Decent V with a nice Pad. SS surface prop. Had to do a little sawing at the wheel to stay on the pad, but it screamed!
This one just jumps out of the water!. Gotta get more pitch on it. Didn't make it out yesterday...got a little windy. Heres a pic of my old Switzer..(and my crazy friend Jimmy in back drinking the last of my beer!)

Yep, the biggest I have is a 25p. Ran a 2 blade ss 14x28p/good cup on that Switzer. I'm looking for great hole shots on the Flatty, so the top speed thing aint that big of deal (getting old?). Just gotta watch the RPMS..had a foot throttle on the Switzer. This one still hand, but the flat bottom shoots pretty straight.

That Switzer is a rocket. Never got a good look at one.......go by too fast.

I'm going to bet you that you won't stop till you max out that sucker. Don't give me that getting too old stuff. Once you tasted the honey (performance of your Switzer), you'll settle for nothing else. BTDT

Yeah, I know I say that now, but it won't last.
Heres a pic of our next door neighbor back then with the then new Switzercraft GL20 with the first 200 Rude on it. Nothing like running on the pad..
