Temporary Protective coating for fiberglass question?

I'm useing "polyester resin" to do the fiberglass work on the gunwales of my boat and have run out of time for finishing the glass work by the 4th due to work and other things.
Is there a "temporary coating" that I can put on the gunwales over the poly that will help protect the family and myself from the itch from the raw glass for the evening and be easily removed when I'm ready to put the next coat of fiberglass on the gunwales?
I thought about wrapping the gunwales in heavy craft paper and painting it with some old paint to help waterproof it and taping and stapleing the paper into place for the evening?
Would car wax work?

Max how about just plain good old 6 MIL plastic and duct tape 50 foot rols of plastic can be had cheap at Homie desperate and duct tape isnt real pricey either and no staples to have to pull back out when your done ( as long as you wont be opening her up on the 4th I think that would work fine and be easy to undo afterwards .

I had thought about plastic but was concerned that it might be slippery if wet.

Well Max I guess if your looking at putting it on the floor then pour some cheap paint on it once taped down well and spread a couple bags of Play sand in the wet paint .

I'd splash a thick coat of straight resin on the gunwales,
no glass.
No splinters.
If it gets wet it might start to twist on you if theres any tension.

Hadn't thought about possible twisting after being wet. I better wrap the gunwales up good.

if you plan on using the boat, keep in mind that poly resin does not have any uv protection in it and can be degraded by sunlight, i might reccomend a paint or gelcoat that you could sand off easily later. If your roll the gelcoat on with a 3/8 nap roller it will create a temporary nonskid as well

After thinking things over and weighing out the different idea's offered I've decided to use 60 lb. weight craft paper and blue painter's tape to cover the gunwales temporarily and then put on a coat of old paint that I have sitting around to help waterproof the craft paper. I only need it to last for a weekend and anything over that will be a bonus until I get the time and materials to glass the gunwales properly. I keep the boat covered also so I may get more than one use if all goes well.
