Hiya,<br /><br />I looking to get a cheap FF for my beater 16' aluminum boat (tiller steer, no frills). I haven't decided whether to get a portable unit (suction cup mount transducer), or just get the regular kind and bring the head part inside when not in use (boat sits on shore at the cottage all summer). I like the idea of occassionaly being able to move the whole thing onto another boat 'cause I fish in other lakes with different equipment, so I'd like the ability to move the transducer also (but might be infrequently). I heard someone say how they mounted their transducer to a board as long as the transom height, and hold the board by C-clamping it to the transom at the top. Anyone else tried this? Does this work OK, even at speed? (assuming the height and angle of transducer has been set OK). To me, it seems this might be a more secure mounting solution than a suction cup mount (?).<br /><br />Also, I think some portables have transducers that are not compatible with operating the unit at speed (?). I'd like to be able to do that (for a quick survey of the bottom topography), and if that can only be done with the 200 KHz transducer that comes with the "standard/non-portable" model, I'll go that way for sure. <br /><br />BTW, I'm thinking of an Eagle cuda 128 or 128 portable. Will be exclusively freshwater, under 100' (usually under 30'). I think (but I'm not sure) that the same skimmer transducer is used for both, bot the portable has a suction cup mount. <br /><br />So, if you have comments on 128's, please chime in.<br /><br />thanks for your $.02.<br /><br />Brent
