Found a guy unloading a 99 capri with a non-running force 125. According to the story, its been sitting for a while in his boatyard, now it won't start. He just wants it gone. Good floor, good seats, no speakers, crummy carpet. Worth 15 hundo?
I have a running '75 Ebko tri with a jonnyrude 135. Gets me on the lake and runs fine...but I want a newer toy. I figger since I resurected the 'rude from a pile of parts in a crate, I could do it with the Force...and this one is a couple of decades newer.

Opinions?

By 15 hundo do you mean $1500? If so then I don't think so.

With good compression you could get it running. If not there's that much in parts if you want to deal with parting and selling. I'd offer $1k or less and see what happens. Trailer?

$1500? prolly not... But, if you could talk him down...

Put the 135 on the Bayliner (if its rated for it), and off you go. Sell the Force and trihull.

Assuming, of course, the bayliner isn't a pile of mush underneath, which is always a possibility.

Any used boat must be inspected. Any soft spots, evidence of rot; you pass.

Since the NADA for that(1999) boat/motor/trailer is $4600(average); $4000(low), and the motor lists at $250, that makes the boat/trailer worth about $4350 without a motor.

So if the boat is in good shape, why wouldn't it be worth $1500?

FYI, the last year of the Force 125 was 1989. From 1990-1999 on it was a 120.

Saying it has a 125 Force and the year is 1999 sounds a little suspicious. Maybe it's actually a 1989 boat???

Maybe he is getting a bargain at 1500 DIMES.... may be overpaying at that too.

My mistake on the motor. It is a 120, and by the pics the boat itself is most certainly a '99. The only thing I'm concerned with is the floor. I can fix motors, but floors are a PITA. This guy swears that its solid, but of course you never know until ya stomp on it with a good pair of ropers (boots, for the Texas impaired). I also REALLY don't want to drive 200 miles and come back towing nothing. The boat is on a good trailer, all papers are good. I guess my next move is to go a-lookin and a-stompin with a grand in my pocket and see what happens.

I would bring the stuff you need to do a compression check. If it has good compression and the floors/stringers are in good shape, I say go for it! If the compression is off, or the wood is rotten, I'd pass.

Between the lower unit, trailer and various parts you could get your money back. Especially at a grand.

I know the feeling of having a tight budget. When some of the people you ask have newer boats, all the stuff in our price range is junk. But it's our junk and it gets us on the water.

Some day I hope to buy a new boat. But today ain't that day, and tomorrow isn't looking good either.
