Terminal Fuse Question

I'm in the middle of my new wiring for my jon boat and I'm looking for options for wiring the TM. I decided not to buy a new TM at this time since the boat came with an older Minn Kota 35# thrust. Until I buy a new TM I don't want to put the money into a more costly circuit breaker either. I just found out about terminal fuses and wanted to get the opinions of those here since I've never heard anyone mention them. I understand they function the same way as any fuse but I would think there would be an advantage to using the terminal fuse since it's placed at the battery and would protect the entire wire leading from the battery. What I can't find is if the fuse housing can be opened to replace the blown fuse or if the entire housing has to be purchased again. Thanks for the help!

Re: Terminal Fuse Question

Don't see why not you can't use one...I've had them factory installed for bow thrusters and an anchor winch.

Mine were resettable, but now using one that is self resetting.

I like the fact of protecting my wire at the battery for high amperage equipment.

Good Luck!

Re: Terminal Fuse Question

Fuses or circuit breakers for trolling motors should always be at the + post of the battery.

Agreed! Having a fuse or breaker at any place in the circuit OTHER than at the battery leaves unprotected wiring between the fuse or breaker and the battery, What you use for protection is up to you.

Re: Terminal Fuse Question

For that matter they are required to be within 7 inches of the source of power, the battery!

Re: Terminal Fuse Question

Thanks guys! If the fuse blows in the terminal fuse can I replace the fuse or do I need to buy an entire new terminal fuse setup. That's what I can't figure out. I don't get a description from the websites that sell them but I would assume I can replace them but don't know for sure. Thanks again.

I've tried looking on the internet but I got nothing explaining the "terminal fuse".

Re: Terminal Fuse Question

Wouldn't it be a circuit breaker if it's resettable?
