Terminology Question

Just bought a used boat ('97 Ebbtide Mystique) last week - my first boat. Had it out over the weekend and noticed there was something missing on the side.

Initially thought it was a cleat, but it turns out that it is the spot where the horn is located. What is the name of the metal vent thing that goes there? Need to order one and 'metal vent thing' is not a searchable term.

Right now I have a big whistle, and I used to use the Safety Blaster Horn shown. These devices are a LOT louder than those chintzy electric horns. Plus at $2 - $6 they blow doors on replacing that horn for $60

+1 - electric horns can't be depended upon when you need them. They're made of 2 or 3 dissimliar metals and galvanic corrosion just consumes them, especially in salt. They aren't very loud, either, unless you're spending big bucks.

I carry a stadium horn ,too. I also have a bunch of whistles available (one's attached to each PFD).

The "Safety Blaster" deal is incredibly LOUD . . . They can be a little finicky as there is a cellophane membrane that can get messed up. Easy to replace, but if you need it fast, then that kind of defeats the purpose of going mechanical vs. electric. It's worth getting one just to play with it . . .

Know it's not the answer you were looking for but if you decide on whistle try Fox brand. We hand them out to students at river rescue training. Them things are loud.
