Doesn't look like you have too far to go with that one. Good luck. You will find very good advice here. First things first though... fire up that BBQ grill

Welcome to iboats!
No, that doesn't look too bad.
I didn't know any thing about boats either, but I'm restoring an old Skeeter. Take lots of pictures, for reference and to post here. Make lots of notes, label everything, and take measurements of everything, and then measure again. I'm going to assume you will need new stringers and transom, so you'll have to take the deck cap off. It's not too difficult, just time consuming.
Have fun.

I'm still learning, so I'm not positive, but if the deck feels solid, and doesn't give when you walk on it, it may be okay. Without a motor on there, I'm not sure how you'd check for flex. I guess you could tap around on the outside of the transom. It should sound solid, no 'thud'.
If you only plan on doing a cosmetic update, you shouldn't have too much trouble. Looks like a lot of area to carpet though.

Re: Terry bass boat project

I dont really have a plan yet, I am hoping it just cosmetic, the paint is really rough,,it feels like 80 grit & I have no fiberglass exp. at all, I have never seen one in its original condition, I saw a post that said he had the same year & model so I sent him a message to see if he had any pictures but havent heard back yet but I am leaning towards customizing it to my liking instead of returning it it original. Fortunatly I have a 1975 15 ft. mackie boat to fish with so I have the time to do it right. I really enjoy the mackie but wished it was a little bigger so I started to look for similar but bigger bass boats, I thought these old classics were pretty much the same ranger, hydrosport, bumble bee, I must have seen 5 or 6 different brands of boats that all looked the same,I came across the Terry on craigs list & searched it here on I boats, saw Choctawone's post saying these were the best of they're day & D.Spencers thread showing a total restoration & went for it. Thanks for all of your interest, support and advice,,,,,,I'll need it
Heres a pic of the Mackie when I bought it

Re: Terry bass boat project

D. Spencer, I know its been a couple years since your post, but i just acquired a '77 Terry 5.2M and I am about to re-carpet. Can you define MOFO ? How bad was it ? Any advice ? I have the new roll, sitting in my shed, waiting for me to install. Ive been scratching my head for about a month (or two). I think my approach is gonna be to make some kind of template. But all those corners, hatches, drops, etc... I want to make the least possible visible cuts.

I have just been given a free 1977 terry HA. HA. I took a look at the same thing and decied to paint it for now and work on the operational things. I have had a lot of things to do to this one starting from the transom to the engine. DNR sticker is a 2001. I guess it may have been sitting a while.
