Some reference data for you: With trim tabs all the way down, my 23 footer with a 20 degree V will plane at 12 MPH ;) With them up, around 18 MPH. My guess is that a 16 degree boat will plane around 16 MPH without tabs. Bigger engine will raise that speed some and visa versa.

I just got rid of my first boat, that I had for 11 years. It was a 19 foot Bayliner Capri, 1988 Model. You wanna talk about rough riding, now that thing rode Rough.

My new boat is a Crownline 196BR, its a 1994 Model. This boat is so heavy, that it will not bump you or shake you at all on the back couch. It honestly feels like you are riding in a cadilac on the water. I have had it in rough water, but I need to try it without the wife and kids, but I will tell you its a million times better than the other bayliner. Its fast to, lol it will run over 50 with 7 on board, and thats only with a 5.0 Liter and Alpha 1 drive.

I love the crownline, but that is my choice, its the best riding boat I have ever been on. You might need to try to find a larger boat than the 17 or 18 footer to really get what you are looking for.

Good luck.
