Okay, After getting new steering setup I finally got my tower of power on the lake today. first here is what I have
1968 16.8 ft Glasspar semi deep V citation. Its a big water boat with lots of dig in the back. It weights 1000 without motor.
1969 1250 in good shape I got from Billr I rebuilt fuel pumps, cleaned carbs, cleaned and changed fluids, new plugs all wiring look good after fixing some with liquid tape.

I put a 4 blade adjustable new composite prop from West marine. Forget name built in Sweden. set pitch for 19.

Well put boat in water and primed and pushed up warm up lever and hit choke and started. Right away I could see a problem. I set idle with a hose connection out of water. Idle was fine. Well with backpressure in the water I was having to put warm up lever almost all the way up to keep idling. Everytime even when warmed up that I tried putting main throttle in idle with warm up lever down engine would die

I freaked at first because after warming up I tried to go to WOT and throttle would not open up all the way. Then I figured out that if you have warm up lever up main throttle is limited. So I put warm up down low while still idleing. I put in gear and boat started to get to speed. I gunned it to WOT and I would say it was 30-45 seconds to get to top speed. I don't have tach so I am guessing about 5000 rpm or lower. It was not over revving. On my pocket GPS it had me at 29-30 WOT a big jump from my 15-16 with old Bearcat 55. It seemed to run strong and smooth. I kept a close eye on PEE stream as I did not put in new impeller as I had good flow at test. Flow as speed increased was VERY strong so it appears water pump impeller is good from last owner. I got very good acceleration bringing it up and down from 7-29 mph. smooth with steady increase of about 20-30 seconds from 7-29 mph. Only drawback was NO IDLE when throttle put back in neutral. I kept having to start with warm up lever up and try to slow idle as to not put in gear with high rev to hurt lower unit.
I also think I am not getting full potential of WOT speed as in talking with others I was guessing with my boat, 2 people, and prop pitch of 19 that I would get somewhere in the 34-36 WOT if not more and a 31-33 cruise speed if not more!
I have not hooked up power tilt yet , I just had tilt bar set at proper hole to match boat angle. I had my electric trolling motor along for reverse of boat as since power tilt is not yet installed I did not want motor jumping up in reverse . Just used electric motor for reverse. I am wondering if when I hook up power tilt if I may be able to get more speed?
Upon going back to launch after about 1 hour cruising I noticed that I still could not idle. Also I was getting a miss or rough idle with warm up bar up and holding about 1000 rpm give or take. I tried opening up throttle and it was fine. Just rough trying to idle. I am thinking dist advance is set to retarded. It was getting dark so I could not open up cowling and adjust idle and throttle linkage.
I felt motor after being WOT for a good amount of time. It was not hot and water coming out peehole was only warm not hot so that seems good.

Well what do you think? I am impressed as motor is very smooth and not noisy as compared to my bearcat.
Oh and lastly, How do I know if it is charging my battery. I have my lowrance fish finder hooked up and it said a constant 12.4 volts while driving. With my bearcat it would noticeably increase voltage when driving. Hope it is charging.
Any advice??
am I wrong to think I should get more speed? Thanks
Tod
