How do I test to see if the bulb needs replaced on a 1977 Starcraft 18 footer with a mercruiser inboard motor? also my trim gauge isn't working

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... I'll Guess ya got a 120 hp, 2.5l, or maybe a 3.0l, 140 hp, MC-1 drive,...

The oil light oughta come on with just the key "On"...

The trim gauge is driven by the funky apparatus on the transom, that the 1 trim line runs through,....
I never figured it out, 'n tossed the whole mess when I up-graded to the new style pump...

I had a 1972 165 (in-line six) in the boat when I first bought it. Had that engine in for 8 years before replacing it. I did figure out how that funky set-up worked, and I 'reconditioned' it several times. Everything worked perfectly, except the gauge was still pish...

Unfortunately upgrading to hinge pin mounted senders is not an option for that vintage gimbal housing...

Re: Testing Oil Lights

Gauges should not be lit with the key OFF.... They should only be powered when the key is ON, otherwise the battery would flatten out after every fishing trip...

While not long tern plan, just hook and unhook your battery to go fishing! (ground cable)
