I'm trying to diagnose a 1988 DT200 with no charge that I beleive may be a problem with the rectifier. The manual I have says that you need to test all combinations of the rectifier wiring leads with a powered test light. I was wondering if I could accomplish the same thing by just using an ohm meter? I assume I should show high resistance in one direction and low resistance in the other direction?

Also, is there any way to test the battery charging coils? Can I simply hook a meter set on AC volts to the yellow and red leads from the stator and measure AC voltage?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

Re: Testing Rectifier (suzuki)

If the manual draws out the rectifier as a four diode bridge and lables the leads, then yes, you can use an ohm meter to check the for the flow of current in one direction and not in the other.

The rectifier on my DT55 has three leads and is shown as black box in the manual so I can not tell you how to hook up your ohm meter.
