I have a 4.3L OMC How do I test for voltage at the trim/tilt motor? Do I unplug the wire harness and test each wire with my voltmeter? I've alredy checked the solenoids and they are OK. (my outdrive is stuck down)

Hi Jason

You've started this thread 3 or 4 times now. I'm not sure if I'd answered you or not. Please stay with the same thread so that everyone knows your history. If you are impatient, just add a comment to the topic, and it will come to the top.
Thanks :)

I have no idea what model you have, but I'm guessing there are 3 wires going to the motor.
>Check for power from green to ground while triming down.
>Check for power from blue to ground while trimming up.

Motor must be connected to do these tests. If you have power to these wires under each circumstance, the motor is in question.

I am going to presume that the ground circuit for the motor is OK, because I remember you saying it will motor down....right?

Re: testing tilt motor??

Need year of boat, and model number of drive and engine. 1989 up with GM engine has red wire going from starter solenoid to relay on side of T/T motor, wire has 50 amp fuse. If the red wire will unplug at the relay, unplug and test there, no power, fuse is blown. Power on red wire ok check red/purple wire to T/T switch for power. Ok there, check power on green wire and blue wire fron relay to T/T motor, you will need to switch the T/T switch to apply power to these wires. If you have power on these 2 wires and the motor does not run, the motor is bad or bad ground wire.

The 1988 and 1989 T/T pump and solenoid/relay are not the same, inportant to know which system. 1988 had solenoids with 3 wire motor, 1989 had relays with 2 wire motor, and the OMCs had a lot of boats of 1 year and the motor a different year.
