Texas Boat & Motor Title Transfer - Do they have to be notarized?

I'm buying a 1988 VIP boat and the titles are the originals from 1988. Both the boat and motor titles have a spot for a notary where the buyer and seller sign the back. It's been a while since I've bought a boat but I don't remember ever having to get the titles notarized. Does anyone know if you have to get the titles notarized in Texas? Was this something they use to do but no longer do? Any help for a newbie would be appreciated.

If it has a place to get notarized on the title, get it notarized. I just went through it and if you're bring theboat in from out if state, be sure to get all your documents together. It's not that big of a deal as long as it's all together.

Bill of sales don't need to be notarized, titles do.

Welcome Aboard andrewgri2. I'm some new here too. You'll get he'p from these folks. Hope ya' read Joshua Nichols' ans. and don't go blind at the forms. I'm dealing with old never titled motors mostly, so have limited exp. in your area. I did find that to aquire a lost title for boat and or motor a fee of $27 is required for each. If yer inna hurry and want to "expedite" 'nother $35. I'M WAITING.

Thanks all for the info. I just listened to a TPWD automated recording and talked to someone and both said that the titles DON'T need to be notarized. This use to be required, which is why it's listed on these old title from '88; but this is no longer required.
