Texas Trailer Registration Help!

So I grew up in Canada and have lived in TX for 7 years and I got our family boat and trailer (old Bayliner nothing special) during COVID. I brought thru customs with all their inspections and fees without issue. Got it here to TX and was able to get a title on the boat no problem.

My issue has been trying to get the trailer registered as every time I go to the Denton office to get the license and registration I’m told I need something else.

First time they said I needed it inspected by law enforcement agency to verify not stolen and needed it weighed. It’s a small trailer and wouldn’t register on the CAT scales. I backed a corner of my truck on scale and got it to read and had the inspection done.

Now they say my customs paperwork doesn’t show anything for the trailer so I need to go back to port of entry (Detroit) and get it updated. That’s not happening.

Looking for ideas how to get this thing registered. Is the homemade trailer option viable in this case? How does that work?

To claim it as a homemade trailer, you need to find and remove any serial plates that might be on the trailer. They're usually on the tongue.
