Re: Thank you fellow iboaters'

-Has anyone ever ordered a motor from www.usenginesinc.com before? If so, what was your experience like?

-With the increase in horsepower, will I or should I make any other adjustments? I'm hoping not so, I don't have to spend any more money.

-There is a serial number on my current engine that matches my current title, do I have to change it on my title? If so, how? It has to be okay, because I'm sure folks have to change their engines out all the time.

-Do you think the JB Weld on the exhaust manifolds is a good idea?

Ayuh,.... I haven't bought anything from them, so I can't say....

Without alot more Info, I'm guessin' that Big Horsepower is on paper, not in the boat....

Take the serial number tag, 'n fix it to the new block.... epoxy works, if ya can't do the rivets....

No, I don't,... Yer dumpin' a Pile of Money into a new motor, epoxyin' those manifolds is just rollin' the dice,...
Can you afford Not to replace that scrap iron,..??

You'll be fine with what you have. With the extra HP, you could probably change your prop and get more speed out of it, but it certainly isn't necessary.

How much are you spending on your new engine? How much time are you putting into it? Do you want to put busted exhaust manifolds on your brand new engine?

Click on the link in my signature for my parts boat destruction. That's what the previous owner of that boat did.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

The manifold is just cracked on the outside, so when it leaks it will just drip unto the exterior of the engine, right? From the looks of it, it shouldn't leak inside the exhaust and back into the engine? What do you think?

For everything Engine, Shipping and Handling, and core charges it came out to $2698.

So, there is nothing illegal with swapping the serial tag? I just want to make sure.

Oh also, should I buy a new motor hour timer? Or is there anyway to roll the one I have in the boat now back?

Thanks!

Re: Thank you fellow iboaters'

Oh, and I forgot to update you all on my outdrive. It is all painted and back together. I was done with this before the holidays I just forgot to update iboats.

With that being said, I do have a question, after my outdrive was all back together I started cleaning up the garage and noticed that I forgot to put the "Fill Wall" back into the drive. Umm, is this important or can I leave it out? What exactly does it do?

While I had it apart I did take the opportunity to replace the impeller and I did order all new gaskets and seals. So, my other question was there were two gaskets in each package, do I need to use both gaskets (double up) or will one of each suffice? I didn't know if I was just lucky and got two gaskets in each package (bonus).

Needles to say I did only use one gasket and forgot to reinstall the fill wall. Please let me know if I need to pull the thing apart and add these additional parts.

Re: Thank you fellow iboaters'

I wouldn't risk the big investment of the new engine with cracked manifolds. Ive even heard of warranties being void without proof of new manifolds. Here are some that i would buy if doing what you are, they flow a little better and save weight.

http://teaguecustommarine.com/index.php/thumper-power-v6-manifold-riser-kit-black.html

With the added power that rig should move along quite well. I have a 4.3,merc,190hp 19 foot caravelle that runs 50 all day long. I would think mid 50's on yours.

I would just take a picture of the receipt next to the hour meter to document the chnge out.
Change tag over as noted, Take pics here as well. Record both engine numbers.

Lookin good!

Re: Thank you fellow iboaters'

Great question about the Serial numbers. In Texas you will need to have your title changed to match. I think it cost me around 30 bucks when I changed out the engine on the glastron. Not really hard at all, but you need to do so.

Also I got my engine from City Motor supply in Dallas. For the money I saved over all the other guys with super long warranties, I could buy two engines. I think I paid $1400 for a 350 crate that was marinized with brass freeze plugs and a custom cam. It is still running strong. I think that a 4.3 will be about the same price including paying the core charge.

Thanks for the info Jay! I knew you would know...

I almost ordered from US Powertrain out of Dallas. I found the guy on Ebay, but couldn't get a hold of him to answer a few questions I a had.

Great work thus far! Interesting thread and awesome pictures/videos!

Re your recent questions on "fill wall" & "gaskets"....unfortuately I don't have the expertise to help. However, I would suggest you might want to start a new post with that specific question(s). Many who might be able to answer might not see your question buried on page three of a post titled "Thank you....".

Good luck!

Your welcome! The money spent seems to never end when redoing a boat. Considering what you have spent on the engine and the fact that your boat looks to be worth spending money on, I think new manifolds were a good investment.
