The engine's almost like a tractor engine, and is a combination of parts.
Mercury aluminum block
Ford 460 heads
Ford big block bearings
GM electrics
2 barrel Carb. also used on a 67 Chevy Impala station wagon with the 307 engine

What no one ever said that the Mercury engine builders are top quality assemblers of marine engines. On the 470, they custom fitted every bearing on the driveshaft--measuring under every bearing cap.

Not exactly. They did have a Delco distributor, but the shaft was not GM. The carb is a marine version of a Rochester 2bbl carb, not off a 67 Chevy anything.
Other than the distributor, nothing else in the electrical system was GM. The alternator shown in the pictures is aftermarket. Mercruiser didn't even use an alternator on those engines.

Not sure where you get all your weird information but you better recheck it.

Drive-shaft? In an engine? Mechanics call them a crankshaft (if that's what you're referring to)... You find a drive-shaft in the sterndrive assembly...
