I have 1986 90hp inline six and its been giving me trouble lately. It was to the point where it wouldnt start whit out starting fluid .The funnie thing is after getting it stated it would lose the hard starting problem all together until the engine would cool for two hours or so.The other strange thing was that it would run great any speed over say 3mph but it would die out at idle speed.I thought it was the carbs you know idle tube gummed up Wrong. Then I read some thing about flooding due to a hole in the fule pump diaphram witch leak gas strait into the crank case.Wrong After that I checked to see if the choke was stuck. Not that THEN I decided to check the ignition system and found spark on only two cylinders .So this meant that it would start up on only 2 cylinders and then the others would kick in.I bought a DVA meter and checked the leads comeing from the stator to the switch box and found only 45 volts going to the top switch box should be 180 or better Bad stator Now I could use a few pointers anyone know how to get this flywheel off? THANKS AGAIN

You really need the merc. flywheel puller you can find them on the Internet quite cheap if you shop carefully, some remove the bolts on the hub I don't recommend it but if you decide ti do it that way use care to index every thing so it can be reassembled correctly

The right flywheel puller does the job right, with no indexing or even timing problems.
